For the 16th year, the Toy Drive for Pine Ridge is bringing their benefit concerts to Benson. The Dec. 8 concerts will be held at the Waiting Room Lounge and the Reverb Lounge, with both shows starting at 8 p.m. Acts include A Late Fall, Matt Whipkey Band, Lash LaRue and the Hired Guns, Scott Severin, BandRanch Outlaws, Wagon Blasters and 24 Hour Cardlock.
Admission is $10 or a new, unwrapped toy per venue or a $15 wristband for both venues, with proceeds to benefit the Toy Drive for Pine Ridge’s toy delivery and heating fund for the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. The Pine Ridge Indian Reservation has the highest poverty level of any region in the U.S. and an 80 percent unemployment rate.
The Toy Drive for Pine Ridge began in 2003 with area musician Larry Dunn, also known as Lash LaRue, and has held multiple benefit concerts, radio broadcasts and fundraising events in Omaha, Lincoln and Des Moines. Toy giveaways take place at schools on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation each December. Monetary donations are used for the heating fund, which provides propane to elders on the reservation during the winter.
